How to fold and unfold FOLD
Two real-bike video guides show the complete process – from a full-size cargo bike to its compact format and back again.
Fold FOLD
From the ride-ready cargo bike to its compact format.
Complete folding process · 36 sec.
Before the next ride, unfold FOLD completely and carry out the safety check.
Unfold FOLD
From the compact format back to a ride-ready FOLD.
Complete unfolding process · 34 sec.
Complete the following safety check before riding.
Before folding and unfolding
Remove children, animals and loose cargo completely from the cargo area. Place FOLD securely on level, stable ground and keep it steady throughout the entire process.
The videos are a visual overview. The current user manual remains authoritative for the operating sequence and all safety checks. After unfolding: check before every ride
Check the steering column and frame separately. For the tensioning lever on the steering column, the tensioning lever on the frame and the clamping lever on the frame, confirm clearly noticeable resistance while closing. Do not ride until every item below has been completed.
Steering column
- Close the tensioning lever on the steering column completely. Clearly noticeable resistance must be felt while closing it.
- Guide the safety tab completely over the locking pin. The locking pin must sit fully in the intended slot in the safety tab.
- Apply both brakes and load the handlebar forwards in a controlled manner using your body weight.
- The steering column must have no play.
Frame
- Close the tensioning lever on the frame completely. Clearly noticeable resistance must be felt while closing it.
- Close the clamping lever on the frame completely. A clearly noticeable resistance must be present while closing it.
- Check that the tensioning lever and clamping lever are fully seated and cannot open unintentionally.
Do not ride if clearly noticeable resistance is absent, unusually high force is required, there is play, or any locking mechanism is incomplete.
Do not force a locking mechanism closed. Lock FOLD completely again and repeat the check. If a lever closes without clearly noticeable resistance, requires unusually high force, cannot be fully closed, or play remains, do not use FOLD and contact an authorised FOLD dealer or FOLD Support.
The current user manual remains authoritative for the operating sequence and all safety checks.Frequently asked questions about folding and unfolding
The most important information for using the video guides safely.
Must the cargo area be empty before folding?
Yes. Remove children, animals and loose cargo completely from the cargo area before folding or unfolding.
What surface should I use for folding or unfolding FOLD?
Place FOLD securely on level, stable ground and make sure the bike remains steady throughout the entire process.
What must I check after unfolding before riding?
On the steering column, check that the tensioning lever is fully closed with clearly noticeable resistance while closing, that the safety tab is guided completely over the locking pin, that the locking pin is seated fully in its slot, that the load test with both brakes has been performed and that there is no play. On the frame, check that the tensioning lever and clamping lever are fully closed and that clearly noticeable resistance is felt while closing each lever.
What should the resistance feel like when closing the levers?
Each tensioning lever and the clamping lever must close completely with clearly noticeable resistance. A lever must not close without noticeable resistance or require unusually high force. In either case, do not ride and have the locking mechanism checked.
Do the videos replace the user manual?
No. The videos are a visual overview. The user manual remains authoritative for the binding operating sequence and all safety checks.
Why are folding and unfolding shown in separate videos?
This lets you watch each process independently and in the correct sequence without having to seek backwards or forwards.
